Fantasy Football Rankings - Week 8

Updated: Oct 27

We are starting to build data that is usable in predicting future outcomes. We now have enough information to be confident in our predictions. Let's also keep in mind that the NFL is a weekly league, things change very quickly. Most analysts want to tell you that whatever happened last week explains everything, but that's far from reality.

The Process

The process in developing these Fantasy Football Rankings is to only take data from the previous six weeks. Anything older than that holds little relevance unless there is a player returning from injury or some reason to discount the newer information. We now have six weeks of information, but we need to recognize that the first couple of weeks were particularly wacky this season.

Fantasy Football Weekly Rankings

When examining these fantasy football rankings - Week 7, take into consideration that we are looking at positional ranks, not flex or overall rankings. When it comes to who you start in the flex a lot will depend on your specific league rules and roster construction. If players are ranked within 3 spots of each other the difference between them is negligible, they are expected to score the same amount of points, in those cases go with your gut, flip a coin, or join our FREE Discord Channel.

Quarterback

C.J. Stroud's home/away splits are extreme. The Texans are returning home next week against the Colts so we should be going back to the well with Stefon Diggs (5-23 on 7 targets in Week 7) and Tank Dell (0-0 on 4 targets in Week 7).

Running Back

Since Todd Downing took over as the NY Jets offensive coordinator, Breece Hall is barely coming off the field. In the last two games, he has played 85% of the snaps and has handled 41 of the team's 48 backfield touches.

Joe Mixon turned 27 touches into 124 yards and two touchdowns in Week 7. He has one of the most locked-in workloads in the league and a weak Indianapolis defense in Week 8.

James Cook returned from injury with 12 carries for 32 yards and a touchdown. Ray Davis didn't see his second touch until the third quarter but finished with six touches for 47 yards and a touchdown.

In his unbelievable return from what appeared to be a career ending injury, Nick Chubb handled 12 of 18 backfield touches and played 36% of the snaps. He had 11 touches at halftime and only one in the second half.

Wide Receiver

Amari Cooper only ran 12 routes, he had four receptions on five targets for 66 yards and a TD. Buy Cooper if you still can!!!

Many are talking about how Amari Cooper has opened up Keon Coleman's fantasy potential, but Cooper wasn’t on the field for any of Coleman's targets in Week 7.

Courtland Sutton didn't see a target in Week 6. That's the first time he's been held without a target in a game in his entire career, per @LateRoundQB.

With Amari Cooper being traded to Buffalo, it was David Njoku (10-76-1 on 14 targets) and Cedric Tillman (8-81 on 12 targets) that led the team in targets. Jerry Jeudy ran the most routes (61) but only saw five targets. Elijah Moore (6-41) saw seven targets.

Brian Thomas Jr. has ranked as a top-10 wide receiver in PPR formats in three of his last four games. Christian Kirk hasn't ranked higher WR14 all season long, and he's been outside the top-30 in three straight, per @LateRoundQB.

Tight End

Ja'Tavion Sanders (6-61 on 6 targets in Week 7) is turning into a decent weapon at tight end. Tommy Tremble should be back soon from injury, but perhaps Sanders has won the starting job.

Since Drake Maye took over in week 6 Hunter Henry has had a 72.6 percent Route participation, 17.1 percent target share, 26.1 percent Air Yard Share, 20 percent targets per route run (TPRR), 2.18 yards per route run (YPRR), 15.2 fantasy PPR points per game, and has been 11-133-1 (12 targets) in raw stats.

Kicker

Defense/Special Teams

Since the 2021 season, Robert Saleh's first in New York, the Jets defense is first in points per drive, first in EPA per play, and third in success rate, despite playing the fourth-most snaps over that stretch.
