Fantasy Football Rankings - Week 2

Updated: 2 days ago

Week one was crazy as expected, and we should expect just as much chaos week two. The first three or four weeks will actually seem nuts because every season has its own “normal”. We project based on historic stats and create new narratives when we get new information, but none of us are going to be even close to 100% accurate with our prognostication.

The Process

My usual process is to only take data from the previous six weeks, I truly believe anything older than that holds little relevance unless there is a player returning from injury or some reason to discount the newer information. In Week 2 we have very little information we can be confident in, at least 30 percent of what we saw in Week 1 won’t be repeated in the next five weeks.

News or Hype?

Post-game reports become important, but they are usually biased so can’t be taken verbatim. Week 2 rankings keep with a similar mode as Week 1 and are fairly narrative based. We will try to keep-up with as much information as possible as the week progresses. I think the best way to start our Week 2 approach is to look at implied team totals based on Vegas odds and adjust from there. We need to pay attention to DFS articles and individual player prop-bets (over/under) to get a good idea of how to project median outcomes.

Fantasy Football Weekly Rankings

When examining these fantasy football weekly rankings, take into consideration that I am really only looking at positional ranks, not flex or overall rankings. When it comes to who you start in the flex a lot will depend on your specific league rules and roster construction. If players are ranked within 3 spots of each other the difference between them is negligible, they are expected to score the same amount of points, in those cases go with your gut, flip a coin, or join our FREE Discord Channel.

Quarterback

Running Back

Bucky Irving accounted for a third of the Buccaneers' rushing attempts as the back-up to Rachaad White. Irving looked explosive, with 9 carries for 62 yards, while White struggled, going for 31 yards on 15 carries. White did dominate the target share, but we can look for the rookie to push White for more playing time as the season progresses, possibly taking short-yardage and goal line work.

J.K. Dobbins had 13 touches in his first game back from an Achilles injury and two years removed from an ACL tear. Dobbins converted his 13 touches into 139 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. The numbers are quite skewed due to two breakaway runs that actually showed us how much Dobbins has slowed down. He still has his trademark vision and contact balance, but as defenses begin to prepare for him the worse it will get. He will likely have one more week of solid output (against Carolina), but five of the Chargers’ next seven games are on the road, which is not fun on old, tired legs.

Wide Receiver

Chargers WR Josh Palmer, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a knee injury, is tracking to play vs. the Panthers, per Adam Schefter.

Lions WR Jameson Williams, listed as questionable for Sunday due to an ankle injury, is expected to play vs. the Buccaneers, per Adam Schefter.

Bengals WR Tee Higgins, listed as doubtful for Sunday due to a hamstring injury, is not expected to play vs. the Chiefs, per Adam Schefter.

Bears consider WRs Keenan Allen (heel) and Rome Odunze (knee) game-time decisions for Sunday night’s matchup vs. the Texans. Allen will test it pregame and if he plays, could be used more sparingly than usual; Odunze is tracking to play vs. the Texans, per Adam Schefter.

Tight End

Jake Ferguson is reportedly considered week-to-week due to a bone bruise and MCL sprain, so he figures to be sidelined multiple contests. Considering the investment Dallas made by selecting Luke Schoonmaker in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he should be the favorite to fill in for Ferguson atop the depth chart, but he caught only eight passes in 2023.

Isaiah Likely finished with 9 receptions for 111 yards, both career highs, and a touchdown on 12 total targets.Likely’s increased role in the offense correlated with an increased usage of 12 personnel. The Ravens featured 12 personnel on 52.7% of plays, the team’s highest mark in a game since 2022. Likely’s biggest play of the game was his 49-yard touchdown which he gained 31 yards after catch, +28 over expected, the most YACOE on a reception of his career. Likely had only a 0.3% chance of scoring a touchdown when he caught the ball according to the NGS expected YAC model.” - per NextGen Stats

Brock Bowers, as a rookie in his very first game, earned a 21.2% target share, ran 77.5% of the routes, 65.5% of them from a WR spot, had the second most targets and the second most yards of any TE.
